Job Description
INTRODUCTION
The Global Scholars Program (GSP) is a living learning community located in North Quad’s International Impact Theme Community that brings together international and U.S. students interested in global social justice. GSP residents are sophomores, juniors, and seniors, who are returning, transfer, international, U.S., and exchange students. GSP provides academic courses that develop students’ intercultural communication skills and deepen their awareness of global social justice issues, complimented by ongoing small group dialogues and community projects. GSP also provides co-curricular, multicultural affirming programming that provides residents the opportunity to build close cross-cultural friendships.
GSP is looking for four highly motivated Resident Advisors (RA’s) who are interested in working with a diverse living learning community of approximately 120 residents. Openness to intercultural exchange and an ability to work well in groups is required. International students are eligible and encouraged to apply. Candidates with GSP experience are preferred. GSP RA’s attend specialty staff training in August and are co-supervised by the North Quad Hall Director and GSP Associate Director.
TIME COMMITMENT
Averages 20 hours per week. Michigan Housing recognizes that Resident Advisors have other academic, personal, and professional time commitments as well. A Resident Advisor’s Hall Director is available to discuss strategies to help balance the Resident Advisor responsibilities with other time commitments as needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Fulfill all advising, counseling, programming, and administrative responsibilities outlined for the Traditional RA position description.
- Organize Community Building Activity (CBA) programming with the goal of creating a strong, culturally-inclusive GSP community.
- Assist in GSP marketing, recruitment, and special event programming.
- Live and work on GSP floors.
ELIGIBILITY
Must meet eligibility requirements as outlined in the Traditional RA position.
SUPERVISION
Co-supervised by the Hall Director and GSP Associate Director.
COMPENSATION
Compensation includes room and board. The meal plan included is to be used as a tool to connect with residents.
