Undergraduate: MLC – Global Scholars Program Resident Advisor 2021-2022

INTRODUCTION

The Global Scholars Program (GSP) is a living learning community located in North Quad’s International Impact Theme Community that brings together international and U.S.students interested in social justice on a global level. GSP residents are sophomores, juniors, and seniors, who are returning, transfer, international, U.S., and exchange students. GSP provides academic courses that develop students’ intercultural communication skills and deepen their awareness of global social justice issues, complimented by ongoing small group dialogues and community projects. GSP also provides co-curricular, multicultural affirming programming that provides residents the opportunity to build close cross-cultural friendships.

GSP is looking for four highly motivated Resident Advisors (RA’s) who are interested in working with a diverse living learning community of approximately 120 residents. Openness to intercultural exchange and an ability to work well in groups is required. International students are eligible and encouraged to apply. Candidates with GSP experience are preferred. GSP RA’s attend specialty staff training in August and are co-supervised by the North Quad Hall Director and GSP Associate Director.

TIME COMMITMENT

Averages 20 hours per week. If ResStaff participate in extracurricular activities outside of their ResStaff Appointment (i.e. another job, committees, sports teams, etc) that have the possibility to interfere with their ability and willingness to perform the full range of responsibilities associated with their ResStaff Appointment, they are expected to discuss this with their supervisor in advance.

The supervisor, in consultation with Residence Education Central Staff and HR, will determine if a potential conflict of commitment exists and what the options are.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Fulfill all advising, counseling, programming, and administrative responsibilities outlined for the RA job description.
  • Organize Community Building Activity (CBA) programming with the goal of creating a GSP community within a broader North Quad International Impact Theme community.
  • Assist in GSP marketing, recruitment, and special event programming.
  • Live and work on GSP floors.

ELIGIBILITY

Must meet eligibility requirements as outlined in the Traditional RA position.

SUPERVISION

Co-supervised by the Hall Director and GSP Professional Staff member.
