Program Assistant for Student Leadership

In alignment with the mission of  Residence Education, the purpose of the Program Assistant for Student Leadership is to assist the Program Manager for Student Leadership in developing and implementing student leadership initiatives within Michigan Housing. The Program Assistant for Student Leadership will focus on assisting in the advising and development of student leaders including Residence Hall Association (RHA), Kids Programs (K-Grams), and ResStaff Coordinators (RSCs). In addition, the Program Assistant will be involved in the assessment and training efforts, as well as focusing on administrative work in order to support the overall success of the department. This is an in-person position.

Student Leadership Education & Training– 60% 

  • Assist with management, advising, and training of RHA student leaders, K-Grams student leaders, and RSCs. 
  • Support the advising and training of the K-Grams general body, RHA Assembly, and Hall Councils. 
  • Attend student group meetings for RHA, K-Grams and Hall Councils.
  • Collaborate closely with student leaders and student leaders to create, implement, and evaluate ongoing large scale programs. 
  • Develop leadership opportunities that foster an inclusive community among student leaders within Residence Education and Michigan Housing (M Housing). 

Administrative Tasks & Assessment – 40% 

  • Meet weekly with the Program Manager for Student Leadership to discuss projects and progress
  • Work with the Program Manager for Student Leadership to assess the effectiveness of Student Leadership development and training 
  • Assist with Michigan Housing projects and initiatives. This includes tasks such as assessment, research, writing proposals, facilitating workshops, and creating training modules. 
  • Assist with the purchasing of program supplies for RHA, K-Grams, and the hall councils
  • Track weekly programming data in Sessions for Residence Education

Perform other duties related to the department and M Housing as assigned by Residence Education leadership.

Position Requirements

  • Enrolled as a full-time U-M Graduate student for the 2026-2027 academic year. 
  • Must be in good academic standing with their school/college
  • Experience leading or advising a student organization
  • Must have a flexible work schedule and be available to work in-person  and attend evening and weekend meetings or programming.
  • Must comply with all local, state, and federal laws
  • Must uphold all policies and procedures as defined by the University of Michigan Standard Practice Guide, the M Housing Community Living at Michigan Standards, the Statement of Student Rights and Responsibilities, and any other applicable University policies and procedures
  • May not simultaneously hold another student position within M Housing

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with educational programming, student leadership development and/or  advising in a higher education setting. 
  • Strong writing skills
  • Experience in a customer service setting

Time Commitment and Compensation

  • This role is not eligible for remote work
  • Approximately 10-15 hours a week commitment 
  • Candidates must be able to start work (insert month)
  • Compensation is $15-$18/hour, depending on experience
